The Bedford Campus of Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) offers a program called Early College, for high school students. It allows them to attend their junior and senior years of high school at the community college, rather than high school. When they graduate, they have an associate degree along with their high school diploma. In fact, due to the difference in graduation dates, they actually get their degree before they get their diploma.
The program has been going on for a number of years now. Anne Cantrell, Bedford’s finance director, was one of the early graduates of the program. She was in the second group of students to enter the program and entered a four-year college with junior status right away.
