Old Dominion University Articulation Agreement

Old Dominion University will guarantee admission to you if you have completed all requirements and received an A.A., A.S., or A.A. & S. degree from CVCC.  You will be admitted as an upper-division student provided that you received grades of C or better.

Transfer Agreement Between
Old Dominion University
and
Central Virginia Community College

Central Virginia Community College and Old Dominion University recognize the need and importance of facilitating the transfer of students from one institution to the other as they pursue their educational goals. This is true whether students begin their higher education program in college transfer or occupational/technical curricula.

Recognizing that many students engage in education as a life-long learning process, Central Virginia Community College and Old Dominion University enter into this agreement to provide a transfer track to a baccalaureate degree for all community college students, regardless of their initial curriculum choice. Part One of this agreement outlines the transfer process for those students in a college transfer curriculum, that is, an Associate in Arts (A.A.) or Associate in Science (A.S.) or Associate of Arts & Science (A.A. & S.) degree. Part Two outlines the transfer process for those students who graduate from Central Virginia Community College in an occupational/technical curriculum, that is, an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree.

Part One

In order to facilitate the transfer of students who successfully complete an A.A., A.S. or A.A. & S. degree at Central Virginia Community College and plan to attend Old Dominion University, the two institutions agree to the following.

1. Old Dominion University will guarantee admission to those Central Virginia Community College students who have completed all course requirements of an approved articulation agreement, received an A.A., A.S., or A.A. & S. degree with a cumulative grade point average that meets the minimum required of all transfer students to Old Dominion University (or provisional admission if the program requires a higher grade point average), and made proper application for admission to Old Dominion University. These students will be admitted as upper-division students provided that they received grades of C or better in their course requirements.
2. Old Dominion University and Central Virginia Community College will follow the designed and approved program outlines of any articulation agreements that have been developed jointly by the two institutions and signed by the appropriate officials in each institution's Office of Academic Affairs.
3. Central Virginia Community College students in the agreed-upon articulation agreements will be granted the same consideration as native Old Dominion University students with regard to changes in academic program admission and course requirements. They will be treated on an equal basis with native students with regard to award and distribution of financial aid, campus housing, selection of courses, and other student services.
4. Central Virginia Community College students who have earned an A., A.S. or A.A.& S. degree, and whose associate degree represents a university-parallel curriculum, are considered to have satisfied Old Dominion University's lower-division general education requirements except those required specifically by a school and/ or department for a given major.
5. Central Virginia Community College students will follow the graduation requirements for students as stated in the Old Dominion University catalog as of the date of the student's initial entry into the appropriate articulation agreement.
6. The articulation agreements will be reviewed every two years or whenever major changes, due to academic policy, are required.
7. This Transfer Agreement will remain in effect until modified by mutual agreement between the presidents of the institutions.

Part Two

In order to facilitate the transfer of students who successfully complete an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree at Central Virginia Community College and plan to attend Old Dominion University, the two institutions agree to the following.

1. A student who receives an A.A.S. degree in specific articulated programs at Central Virginia Community College, with a grade of C or better in all courses, and who completes a minimum of 37 specified general education credits (see below, 4.b) while obtaining the minimum cumulative grade point average required of all transfer students (or provisional admission if the program requires a higher grade point average) will be eligible to apply for transfer to Old Dominion University.
2. Central Virginia Community College A.A.S. degree graduates may expect the following:
   1. To have all of the approved courses in the degree program accepted and recorded by Old Dominion University provided the student received grades of C or better, as identified in the articulated agreement.
   2. To be admitted to Old Dominion University with full Junior class status, as provided in each specific articulation agreement. This includes being considered as satisfying the lower-division general education requirements (see below, 4.b) of Old Dominion University, except those required specifically by a school and/ or department for a given major.
   3. To complete the remaining credits at Old Dominion University (minimum of 30 credits) in course work prescribed by the University.
   4. To be treated on an equal basis with native students with regard to award and distribution of financial aid, campus housing, selection of courses, and other student services.
3. Central Virginia Community College will ensure that students seeking to transfer to Old Dominion University under the auspices of this agreement will have met all of the agreed upon provisions.
4. Old Dominion University will accept full credit toward the completion of the baccalaureate degree(s) identified in the selected articulated programs, including curriculum-related credits (occupational/technical), provided the following conditions are met:
   1. The student has graduated from Central Virginia Community College with an A.A.S. degree in an articulated program with the University (see list of articulated programs);
   2. The student has satisfactorily completed the specified 37 general education credits from the following areas: English composition (6 credits); humanities/fine arts (6 credits); social/behavioral sciences (9 credits); natural sciences (8 credits); mathematics (6 credits); and wellness (2 credits); and
   3. The student has a cumulative grade point average that meets the minimum required of all students transferring to Old Dominion University.
5. Central Virginia Community College and Old Dominion University will promptly communicate any curriculum changes or admissions requirements that affect this agreement through the institutions' Offices of Academic Affairs.
6. Central Virginia Community College and Old Dominion University will articulate specific occupational/technical (A.A.S.) programs and review such every two years. The appropriate person at each institution (Office of Academic Affairs at Central Virginia, and appropriate departmental or college academic representative at ODU) will sign these articulation agreements.
7. This Transfer Agreement will remain in effect until modified by mutual agreement between the presidents of the institutions.

The effective date of this agreement is the date it is signed by the presidents of the institutions.
