Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) students Madelyn Shelton and Claudia van Dyke have been named to the All-Virginia Academic Team, a prestigious honor recognizing the top community college scholars across the Commonwealth. The two were celebrated at a special luncheon in Richmond this week, where they were recognized for their academic excellence, leadership, and community service.

Shelton and van Dyke are active members of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges. Phi Theta Kappa has encouraged and recognized academic achievement among students for more than 85 years and is designated by the American Association of Community Colleges as the official honor society for associate degree institutions. Membership in Phi Theta Kappa is a symbol of both academic integrity and a commitment to learning that extends beyond the classroom.

The All-Virginia Academic Team is part of a nationwide initiative launched in 1994 to celebrate exceptional Phi Theta Kappa students. Each year, top scholars from Virginia’s community colleges are selected based on academic rigor, leadership, and service.

“Madelyn and Claudia exemplify the very best of what Phi Theta Kappa stands for,” said professor John McCullough, Phi Theta Kappa faculty advisor. “Their dedication to academic excellence and their service to the community are truly inspiring. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and grateful to see their hard work recognized at the state level.”

CVCC congratulates Madelyn and Claudia on this outstanding honor and looks forward to their continued success as academic and community leaders.
